In July 2020, Teachers of English from different parts of the world came together to start the International English Language Teachers Association (IELTA). The aim was to support each other's personal and professional growth. There were several meetings and discussions led by Neil Arévalo Alcántara from Perú, Sola Abou Zeid from Lebanon, Suzanne Hitto from the USA, among others.
They set the Mission, Vision, Objectives, designed the main board chart, and created the logo. This team held its 1st IELTA Convention on September 20, 2020 with more than one thousand teachers enrolling from different countries. Then, we started to found branches led by ambassadors in different countries. This fast growth was realised due to the cooperative work and unconditional collaboration of all the members especially Armen Kassabian from USA.
On January 29, 2022, IELTA became a formal association, registered with the code 11387724. This goal was achieved, thanks to the support of members of the Board of: Neil Arévalo Alcántara from Perú, Afsheen Salahuddin from Pakistan, Sola Abou Zeid from Lebanon, Glen Cortezano from the Philippines, Yuliana Vásquez from Panama, Paulina Kasmierczak Majdziñska from Poland, Carlomagno Sancho Noriega from Peru and Nirmaladevi Kandasamy from Malaysia.
Today, IELTA has been formally established as a big family with more than one thousand members across the world. Through our programs, we provide support services to English language teachers and learners in more than seventy countries.
